EMCON has been involved in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency for more than 10 years. With our strong capacity in rural grid electrification, renewable energy services play a complimentary and important role for the Off-grid sector and its vast needs on the African continent. Our services include technical designs, project management, programme design, capacity building and energy efficiency.
Past experience includes the design, engineering and construction supervision of a 30 kW first of its kind solar PV/diesel generator hybrid system at the Gobabeb Training and Research Centre, 120 km south-east of Walvis Bay. More recently, we were similarly responsible for the 200 kW hybrid solar PV/diesel plant at Tsumkwe, one of the largest in Southern Africa (at the time of inauguration, October 2011). A pilot 220 kW refurbished wind energy converter was erected at Mile 7, Walvis Bay, to become the first grid-connected wind turbine in Namibia. Project responsibilities include the wind resource assessment, business plan, generation license application, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Quality of Supply measurements, technical design for the wind turbine to be supplied, tendering and contracting.
Services also include conducting feasibility studies to investigate the viability of renewable electricity supplies, identifying appropriate technologies and establishing the economic viability of such power facilities.
